Lovisa has studied annual flower strips used to compensate for biodiversity losses in agricultural landscapes. These flower strips are intended to support pollinators and pollination of crops, as well as to facilitate natural control of pests by supporting natural enemies.
– I have had training in communicating research results during my PhD studies and I think my poster got this attention because it presents our results in an accessible way, says Lovisa.
Together with Björn Klatt and Henrik Smith, Lovisa is now writing a paper about the effects of annual flower strips on functional biodiversity.
– Our preliminary results show a local effect on bumble bee fitness, but no effect on solitary bees and wasps, says Lovisa Nilsson.
The support for farmers to grow so-called multifunctional flower strips is part of the European CAP. Research evaluating if these support operations have the intended effect is an important part of evaluating the efficiency of CAP.
