Hakim Abdi

I am a geographer by training. My work is centered on understanding coupled human-environment systems in global drylands using Earth-observing satellites, geographic information systems and statistical modeling. I have a PhD in Geobiosphere Science from Lund University and a joint MSc in Geospatial Technologies from the University of Münster in Germany and the New University of Lisbon in Portugal. I received my BSc in Geoscience from Montclair State University in New Jersey, USA.

I am current funded by the Swedish Research Council’s International Postdoc Grant to investigate the role of intra- and inter-seasonal drought on CO2 uptake in drylands using a multi-scalar and multi-temporal Earth observation-based framework. Drylands have a disproportionately large impact on the global climate system and this project will fill a considerable gap in our knowledge about the processes that govern current trends and inter-annual variability in terrestrial CO2 uptake over ecosystems.

You can find me on Twitter or on my personal website. A list of my publications can be found on ORCID.
