Morning seminar: How can we finance a climate-resilient landscape?

How can we finance a climate-resilient landscape? In this session, we will explore forward-looking financing strategies for enabling the transition to more resilient landscapes – including, carbon and biodiversity credits, and new business models grounded in ecosystem values.
In 2018, Skåne was struck by an extreme drought that slashed harvests, dried up streams, and left farmlands parched – offering a stark preview of what may lie ahead under high-emissions (worse case) scenarios like RCP 8.5, where global temperatures could rise by 3–5°C. As climate risks intensify, the urgency to restore ecosystems and build resilient landscapes grows.
Nature-based solutions – such as wetland restoration, sustainable land management, and biodiversity conservation – can contribute to reducing emissions and strengthening climate resilience. These functions are particularly vital for agriculture, which stands on the frontlines of the climate crisis. However, financing this transition remains a major hurdle. To address these challenges, we must rethink how we manage and invest in our landscapes.
In this session, we will explore forward-looking financing strategies for enabling the transition to more resilient landscapes – including nature-based solution (NbS) funds, carbon and biodiversity credits, and new business models grounded in ecosystem value.
Speakers from NaturaTua, Svensk Kollagring, Storkriket, the Stuttgart Climate Innovation Fund, and the Water Councils of Kävlinge å and Råån will share insights on nature-based solutions, carbon and biodiversity credits, and innovative business models for landscape restoration.
Organized by the City of Lund as part of the Arcadia project, in collaboration with the University of Lund and Mistra BIOPATH.
