From the Management

Thank you everyone in the BBQ team for an excellently organized BBQ. The food, drinks, weather and company were just great! We are looking forward to meeting you all in person again in September, and in Teams for Friday info and fika already tomorrow.

The external CIG(B) expert panel is proceeding their work of investigating how operations within CEC, INES and Geology could be coordinated and organized within a joint department. Now the group would like to have your input by answering the short survey that you received from Per this Monday. We hope you will take the opportunity to share your experiences and thoughts. This is an important part of the investigation, and a possibility to influence the future of CEC. The deadline for completing the survey is 17 June.

At the end of June CECs Finance officer Eva Stengard will leave CEC for a position as Head of Finance at the Faculty Office at the Faculty of Social Sciences. Eva has been working at CEC for six years, and we wish her the best of luck with her new opportunity. There will be a possibility to say farewell to Eva on the last Friday fika on 17 June. The recruitment of a substitute will take place in short. We will come back with more information on who to contact in financial matters from 1 July.

The CEC research seminars are back! We welcome Lutz Merbolt head of the Agroecology and Environment Strategic Research Division at Agroscope. The talk will focus on the agricultural systems integrated research and development work carried out within the Mazingira Centre at the International Livestock Research Institute in Kenya over the last 8 years. Take this opportunity to join in person. Drinks and snacks will be available after the talk, a good opportunity to come and socialize with your colleagues! Cheerful news in the corridors

Markku Rummukainen is, again, on the magazine Aktuell Hållbarhet’s list of Sweden's most powerful people in sustainability. Markku is ranked 31st. The motivation is: "One of Sweden's foremost climate experts. Our representative in the UN IPCC, where he participated in the completion of the sixth major report and its dissemination in Sweden and internationally. The main message is that climate action is urgently needed and that many measures are available".

Working for a sustainable future: concepts and approaches
The course is designed to introduce key concepts, methods and vocabulary evolving in sustainability science, with input and examples across several disciplines. The aim is to give participants general knowledge needed to engage with confidence in the sustainability debate and reflect critically to integrate aspects of environmental, social and economic sustainability to their area of interest or research.

Joint PhD Seminar - Bringing stakeholders in; supporting society in climate adaptation strategies as part of the PhD project – Last chance to register is today!
Tuesday, 7 June 2022 15:00 to 16:00. Joint PhD seminars on environmental challenges Research about where nature and society meet, and where environmental crises appear, is being carried out by PhD candidates across Lund University. Although using different methods and asking different questions, their topics intersect in ways whereby engaging in discussions can lead to improved understandings, new collaborations, and an enriched research experience. The seminar series is conducted by and for PhD students. It is a joint initiative by ClimBEco, CEC, LUCSUS, IIIEE and the Agenda 2030 graduate school. PhD candidates from other institutions, faculties and departments as well as advanced master-level student are welcome to attend.

2nd PhD Conference on Sustainable Development, 6-7 October 2022
New ideas, research and opportunities to meet and share ideas are needed to identify and solve complex societal challenges. 6-7th of October, the Agenda 2030 Graduate School will organize a conference on sustainable development to showcase ongoing research and offer networking opportunities for PhDs with similar interests in sustainable development from the whole of Lund University. We invite for submissions of panels, papers, posters and other activities connected to the overall theme on sustainable development. Be creative regarding suggestions of themes or activities. Deadline for submission of panels, papers or other activities are 15th of August. There is no conference fee and the conference sessions will either be held on site or online.
