Tvärvetenskaplig forskning om biologisk mångfald
Jag forskar på biologisk mångfald. Vilka hot finns och vad behöver göras för att bevara mångfalden?
Min forskning fokuserar framförallt på hur klimatförändringar och ett allt intensivare nyttjande av våra landskap påverkar organismer och ekosystemprocesser, samt vilka konsekvenser detta har för de tjänster – ekosystemtjänster – naturen förser oss med. Forskningen bygger på studier av biologiska mångfald och ekosystemtjänster på skalor från lokala fält till hela landskap. Kunskapen omsätts i modeller som kan förutsäga konsekvenser av hur vi sköter våra landskap. Genom tvärvetenskapliga samarbeten försöker jag förstå hur olika strategier för att sköta våra landskap påverkar dessa effekter. Många av mina studier har handlat om den biologiska mångfalden i jordbrukslandskapet.
Vill att forskning gör nytta
Som föreståndare för Centrum för miljö- och klimatforskning, CEC, försöker jag att främja tvärvetenskaplig forskning som söker svar på brådskande miljöfrågor. Jag vill bidra till att vetenskaplig forskning gör nytta i samhället. Jag är ledamot i exekutivkommittén i Mistras råd för utvärdering av miljöforskning, jag är koordinator för Lunds universitets klimatinitiativ, jag arrangerar miljö- och klimatkonferenser och jag håller populärvetenskapliga föreläsningar och skriver forskningssammanfattningar.
Jag är också involverad i att utveckla undervisningen. Jag har initierat flera nya kurser kring miljöfrågor och jag har tagit fram tvärvetenskapliga program. År 2002 mottog jag Lunds universitets pedagogiska utmärkelse för att jag har utvecklat ny tvärvetenskaplig undervisning inom miljövetenskap.
