From the Management

CEC has received new instructions from the Science Faculty – it is the first time the instructions have been revised since the CEC was founded 2010. In the new instructions – which applies from the turn of the year – five clear tasks are pointed out. CEC’s mission is to be:

  • a research actor who, in close collaboration with other departments, encourages and conducts integrated environmental and climate research
  • a coordinator for strategic development of environmental and climate-related research and infrastructure
  • a dynamic and creative meeting place for researchers who want to tackle current and upcoming challenges for research and society
  • a hub for the provision of expertise through training of future professional actors in the field, and
  • a knowledge bank and forum for innovative collaboration between research and the wider society

It is also stated that the chairman of the board and the director should be two different persons and that CEC is responsible for the subject Environmental Science. Anyone who reads the fine print can also see that CEC is called Centre for Environmental and Climate Science (Centrum för miljö- och klimatvetenskap) in the new document – so the name of our working place will be slightly different after new year J. However, the most remains the same.

Overall, the instructions are good news for CEC – Henrik and Per both agree that it is very positive that the new regulations clarify CEC’s role as an integrated knowledge environment with responsibility for the subject environmental science. They also state that the new and clear regulations give us good conditions to continue the positive development of CEC. Attached you can find the new instructions in Swedish – the document will be translated and published on our webpage as soon as possible (www.cec.lu.se/about-cec).

The so-called “verksamhetsdialog” with the Faculty, about the budget, is still ongoing. No news there to announce yet.

After Work on Tuesday!

We are blessed with some wonderful autumn days and it looks like the fine weather will last over the weekend. This an opportunity to actually meet in real life, since it is possible to be outdoors. So, welcome everyone to an unofficial AW at 16.30, Tuesday 22th of September. We gather at the wooden deck outside the restaurant on the ground floor. Bring your own snacks and drinks (CEC will offer some non-alcoholic drinks, juice and mineral water). Due to covid-19 and the Swedish Public Health Agency’s recommendations, everyone who wants to join needs to sign up by sending an e-mail to anna_maria [dot] erling [at] cec [dot] lu [dot] se (Anna Maria) (subject line: “AW”). Pray for a blue sky – if it rains, we have to cancel.

Reminder: Fika for Åsa

At the online Friday breakfast meeting on September 25, we will thank Åsa-Katrin Erlandsson for her eminent services during 14 years at CEC. Åsa-Katrin has started a position in a new unit of procurements in the Chemical Department and will leave CEC in the end of September.

New procedure for health promotion reimbursement in 2020

Previously, health promotion reimbursement has been paid for receipts dated a maximum of one year back in time, provided that you apply for reimbursement for the year in which the purchase was made.
Only purchases made in November or December can be carried over to the next year.

In 2020, new rules have been introduced, which entail that you must have registered your case in Primula by 15 January 2021 in order to apply for reimbursement for activities purchased and paid for in 2020. If you wait until December to send in your receipts, there may be a delay in paying the reimbursement, as many applications are received at the end of the year.
