From the management
Welcome back to a new semester!
During the break some CEC staff has been moving to new offices on the second floor and on the ground floor. More people are moving during the next couple of weeks according to the plan sent out in the newsletter before the break.
The report of the oversight of the organization and long-time financing of CEC has been presented to the Faculty Management. The report is currently discussed in the CEC Management group, and will be discussed at the Faculty Management Council during the next couple of weeks. The report includes a number of recommendations, including that the Faculty of Science should be more involved in the development of CEC, something that could support the Faculty’s work towards the Sustainability Goals. It also recommends the Faculty to prioritize finding CEC new facilities as well as strengthening the networking mechanisms.
We warmly welcome postdoc Veronica Hederström to CEC. Veronica works in the project DrivenByPollinators, her host being Yann Clough. She will initially be found in room D333.
This week we also welcome guest researcher Oliver Sonntag from Université de Montréal, Canada. His hosts are Natascha Kljun and Henni Ylänne. Oliver will give a seminar today and a Friday talk tomorrow, see below.

CECs Friday breakfast fika is served from 9:30 to 10:15 in the CEC lunch room and most Fridays a presentation starts at 10:15. Tomorrow on January 10th Oliver Sonnentag from Université de Montréal, Canada, will give a talk on The influence of permafrost thaw induced land cover changes on the atmosphere. On Friday January 17th, Maj Rundlöf and Ullrika Sahlin will talk on Interacting with society as a scientific expert at EFSA.
Today Thursday January 9th at 13:15 Oliver Sonnentag will give a seminar on Changing land surface-atmosphere interactions across the Arctic-Boreal Region (of northwestern Canada) in Atmosfären, Geocentrum II.
Save the date for the PhD course From CO2 in situ measurements to carbon balance maps as a tool to support national carbon accounting given by the research school ClimBEco on 9-13 March 2020. Last day to apply is 1 February 2020.
Time for your annual report of secondary employment
All teaching staff, regardless of the scope of their employment, are to submit a report annually on secondary employment. Teaching staff who have no secondary employment are also to submit a report. Non-academic staff only have an obligation to report secondary employment when they have a secondary employment or upon request by their manager. The following categories are considered teaching staff, as defined in the Lund University Appointment Rules: professor and visiting professor, adjunct professor, post-retirement professor, senior lecturer, adjunct senior lecturer, associate senior lecturer, postdoc, lecturer and adjunct lecturer. New guidelines for health promotion
In consultation with the Occupational Health Service, the Division of Human Resources has produced new guidelines on health promotion benefits at Lund University. Now you can use your health promotion hour at any time during your ordinary working hours, and not just between the hours of 10:00 and 14:00 as it was previously. Welcome to a guided lunch tour of the exhibition …a borderless reality like gardens of the eternal… by Carlos Garaicoa at Skissernas Museum!
The city is the point of departure for Carlos Garaicoa’s art. Since the early 1990s, he has explored how the city and its architecture both reflect and affect society. In his both poetic and political work, reality and fiction meet with people and citizens at its core. Read more about the exhibition.

Career development for academic staff
Lund University offers a broad range of activities that contribute to career development for academic staff, either within academia or outside it. Some activities are suitable for doctoral students, some for postdocs and others for research team leaders. Registration is now open for activities in the spring semester of 2020. The career development activities are offered in English and are free of charge, both for individuals and departments. Erasmus+: new call for applications
The Erasmus+ programme's new call for applications has now opened. Link to the new announcement Funding for Erasmus+ cooperation projects is intended for uses such as strategic partnership projects, capacity-building projects, joint master’s programmes and Jean Monnet projects.
External Relations submits a joint application regarding exchange mobility both within (Erasmus) and outside Europe (International Credit Mobility, ICM). Preparatory work is currently taking place for ICM. More information about ICM can be found on the Staff Pages
The search is on for a new vice-chancellor – you are welcome to nominate a candidate!
The University Board has now approved the person specification for Lund University’s vice-chancellor, who will take up the position on 1 January 2021. This means that the application period is now open and that employees and students can nominate candidates. The term of office for the present vice-chancellor, Torbjörn von Schantz, ends on 31 December next year. During the autumn, a Recruitment Committee has assisted the University Board to draw up a person specification for the incoming vice-chancellor and this person specification was approved by the Board at its meeting in December. Some of the keywords used in the person specification are highest quality, collegial processes and academic freedom as well as leadership, collegiality and student influence.
