LU Land Breakfast seminar #12: "The potential synergy effects of leys - how can we realize these in a future sustainable agriculture?
In the transition of agriculture towards increased sustainability, more ley in crop rotations is often high-lighted as a potential measure. Perennial grasslands lead to synergy effects such as increased carbon sequestration and soil fertility and reduced nutrient leaking, among others. In addition, flowering riparian strips can provide increased biodiversity. Locally produced and high-quality protein fodder instead of imported feed is also high-lighted, and grass-based bio-refineries can play an important role here. But what are the driving forces to realize all these possibilities? Which obstacles exist, and which (new) policy instruments are required?
